Group dynamics are like soil samples. Soil conducive to thriving is a balance of clay and sand. Strong individualistic tendencies (Sand)are good for transience and flow of ideas but lack cohesion. What good are those ideas if they dissipate with the morning sun or percolate back to source. Strong social ties (clay)provide for nutrients but can lead to stagnation, mold, fungus. Swamps are moldy. Beaches are crass.
