A man I once knew told me of his clandestined past. He said that once upon a time copper was very valuable and worth the effort to recycle. There were a lot of new suburbs going up in this particular area where to for he spoke of. He said all you had to do was sneak into the basement of a new constuction home and snatch all the copper wiring at once, through the main circuit breaker. This lucrative and illicit activity was known as "Rabbit". Guess 'cause it was a little like Peter Rabbit in a garden burrowing under the carrots.
